«Check my phone» floats somewhere between introverted bedroom pop and futuristic hyper pop – soft vocals collide with hard auto-tune. The song is dancy yet intimate – we find ourselves scrolling through other people’s lives while being left out in the song’s two and a half minutes.
The duet is about the loneliness and emptiness that can come from staring at our phones. It’s about the end of a relationship, about the agonising erasure of the last traces and memories that are still lurking on our screens – and about that glimmer of hope, of a small interaction, a text, a call to not feel completely isolated and alone.
Jaako is a Berlin-based pop junkie. In recent years, he has made a name for himself as a producer and songwriter (including Leopold, Hilla). MKSM and Jaako released their single «2021» back in 2021 – Jaako’s first EP will be released later this year (I can’t wait!).
Maksim is the name of the singer, songwriter, violinist, and activist. He has lived in Russia, Ukraine, Frankfurt, London, and now Berlin. The queer artist released his second EP, «Feelings of a Misfit», in 2022. MKSM’s Pride Tour 2022 took him to the United Kingdom and Italy for the first time. Deezer named the singer-songwriter one of Germany’s most intriguing newcomers, and several German TV channels covered the EP and the artist.
In 2023, he will embark on a major Pride Tour (dates to be announced), as well as work on a new EP.
«Check my phone» will be release on St. Patricks Day (17th March 2023) and will be available on all major streaming platforms.
