At just 24 years old, indie pop artist and singer/songwriter Jack Drinker is making waves in the Los Angeles music scene. A graduate of UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music, Drinker has cultivated a sound that blends relatable storytelling with contagious melodies, touching upon mental health, relationships, body image, and loss.
His latest single, «California King», is a captivating love song that captures both hopefulness and naivety. Drinker explains, «’California King’ has a lightness and an excitement to it, but there’s also an awareness of the inevitable — that things won’t go the way I hope they do». This balance reflects the common tendency to idealise loved ones, showcasing how we often glorify them in our minds.
Mixed by Alyssa Wilkens and mastered by industry heavyweights Ryan Schumer and Carl Bahner, «California King» draws sonic inspiration from artists like Gracie Abrams. The track stands out with jangly guitar melodies and dynamic percussion, creating an uplifting atmosphere that will have listeners chanting along to the catchy lines, such as, «you’re a James Dean movie scene, speeding down the highway». With increasing radio play and over 60k streams on his debut EP.
