London Singer Al Coffey Returns With Intensely Personal New Single «Who Loves You Now»
The rising artist opens up about an unexpected text from his first boyfriend that sparked this hauntingly beautiful ballad.
London-based singer-songwriter Al Coffey is back with another emotionally charged offering, following hot on the heels of his previous single ‘unloveable’. His latest track «Who Loves You Now» was dropped on 18 September 2026, and it’s quickly gaining attention on streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music where the artist has been building a growing fanbase.
The Story Behind The Song
Unlike many pop releases that come with polished marketing narratives, «Who Loves You Now» stems from something deeply personal and real. According to the artist himself, the song was born after receiving «an unexpected message from my first boyfriend, years after we’d broken up».
Speaking to journalists, Al Coffey explained: «My first boyfriend messaged me unexpectedly years after we’d broken up, and it made me think about how much time had passed and how little we knew about each other’s lives now».
He continued, revealing the complex emotions that fuelled the track: «I wasn’t wishing we were still together; I just felt this strange mix of tenderness and anger towards the person he had been to me, and found myself wondering if he treated the person he was with now like he treated me. The song came from that place — looking back, without needing to go back».
Sonic Landscape Meets Raw Emotion
Musically, the three-minute-thirty-seven-second ballad is built around «broken harp samples and swelling production» according to available press materials. The track draws clear inspiration from what industry observers have noted as the dreamlike warmth reminiscent of SZA’s acclaimed ‘Good Days’, though with coffey’s distinctly UK indie-pop sensibility layered throughout.
The vocals remain firmly at the centre of the composition, allowing the listener to focus on the lyrical content without being distracted by overly complex arrangements.
The Production Team Behind The Track
Production duties fell to Geth (real name Ashley Singh), whose impressive resume includes work with major UK artists such as James Arthur and Bow Anderson. According to coffey’s own social media announcement shared on Instagram, the producer «killed it on writing and production» calling the final sound «beautiful».
The mastering was handled by Mike Hillier at London’s prestigious Metropolis Studios, a facility known for working with chart-topping acts across multiple genres.
Visual accompaniments to the single were created by Emi Horne ( @emihorne), according to the official Instagram post promoting the release.
Where To Listen
The single is now available on all major streaming platforms:
