The new single from queer pop performer Ripley was released 10th April.
«Fake News», written and produced by Ripley, is a blend of 00s acoustic pop, PC music and playground chant, with lyrics that tear apart our bogus society.
«I was in a really angry place when I wrote ‘Fake News’», says Ripley to LGBTQ Music Chart. He tells me that he was annoyed with a lot of people and starting to feel like my friendships in London were artificial. I was getting sick of seeing photos that had been Facetune’d to death. And I was furious at the misinformation I was reading in the news. Every day, I’d see Trump make some god awful statement and I’d think «I wish he’d just die!».
These feelings spill into the lyrics with Ripley clapping out the words ‘What about Donald Trump? Hope he dies the stupid c***t’ to a backing of schoolyard cheers, bubbling synths and summery flamenco licks.
To promote the single Ripley has recorded a video in isolation in their living room using homemade projections, complimenting the bedroom production sound on the track.
«Fake News» follows Ripley’s debut single «Electric Democracy», released last year to coincide with the UK general election.
«Fake News» are one of the challengers this week on the LGBTQ Music Chart, if you want to in you need to vote here.
