Laura Dre – «Moving Spaces»

By Ephram St. Cloud25/08/2021 Article 1007 Views

«Moving Spaces» is the exquisite, upcoming 10-track album from LGBTQ+ icon Laura Dre.

Hitting over 50,000 views on YouTube in a week, this songstress is destined to have her name in lights. Signed to Outland Recordings, aka one of the world’s leading synth and retrowave music brands, Laura Dre is an empowering artist simply because she doesn’t limit herself to one musical style. Influenced by the world of electronic pop, synthwave and even Japanese city pop, Laura’s signature sound is best described as effortless.

Speaking about the incredible release, Laura Dre states, «Moving Spaces is the title track on my debut solo album. The whole album covers themes of unrequited love and this song is about moving backwards and forwards in love. The lyrics refer to an ‘oasis’ which can be taken as a metaphor for the loneliness and sometimes one-way traffic in feeling love for someone else. But I use indirect writing styles and a lot of the tracks on this album have multi-dimensional meanings which can be interpreted in their own way for the listener».

Wanting to change the world of electronic pop with her rare contralto voice, Laura is influenced by enchanting artists Shirley Manson and Alison Goldfrapp, whilst bringing her own authenticity to the table. Standing up for originality and equality, Laura has performed at some of the world’s biggest LGBTQ+ events (Gay Pride London & Brighton, L-Beach, GoGo Festival). No stranger to the stage, Laura has performed all across the globe on stages in Greece, France, England, Canada, USA, Croatia and Germany, and even opened for pop legend Kim Wilde. «Moving Spaces» was playlisted on the world’s biggest LGBTQ+ radio station, Gaydio, and has hit over 28,000 streams on Spotify alone. A real contender in the world of pop, the forthcoming album is a breath of fresh air. Radiating a powerful 80’s aesthetic throughout whilst paying homage to The Weeknd’s «Blinding Lights» and the Stranger Things soundtrack, the overall album is entirely refreshing and illustrates an artist doing what she does best. Incorporating cleverly written lyrics about unrequited love, there’s something for everyone within the album.

Having grown up with music always being her main passion, Laura started out as many teenagers do, performing Nirvana and Hole covers during school. At the age of 21, Laura was signed to Canadian-Filipino record label Radio Insect Records, and moved to Los Angeles a year later whilst touring with a metal and pop-rock band as a bassist. Known for being a powerful multi-instrumentalist with endless amounts of talent, Laura also studied music production at the University of West London, where she graduated with First Class honours. To add another string to Laura’s ever-growing bow, while based in London and during a short break from music, Laura was also a PC in the Metropolitan Police – is there anything this inspiring woman can’t do?
