Mike McKenzie won the inaugural BBC Scotland «Singer/Songwriter of the Year» in 2019 and went on to play some of Scotland’s most iconic venues including headline shows at King Tut’s, Sneaky Pete’s and Rosslyn Chapel as well as opening for «Horse» at The Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh.
For most of 2020 he spent my time exploring the world of co-writing, practicing my craft alongside a plethora of writers from around the world (literally from London to Melbourne) and have plans to release a tonne of new recordings in 2021, starting with his new single «Saving Grace».
He wrote this song during the first lockdown, where his husband and he were stranded either side of the Atlantic due to travel restrictions spending more than 8 months apart. When he released the acoustic version of the song on my EP «Songwriter Vol.1» it seemed to strike a chord with so many people about their own experiences of hope, loneliness and support during these trying times and he knew the studio version had to be my first single of 2021.
The recording was done mainly in his home studio in Edinburgh with additional instrumentation added remotely. Strings were arranged and recorded by Elspeth Mackay, Upright bass by Ruairidh Morrison and additional guitars from Liam Narrie, who also mixed the track in his studio in London.
Take a listen to Mike McKenzie beautiful tune with the name «Saving Grace» below.
Mike McKenzie‘s «Saving Grace» added to my playlist below. Like it so you don’t miss out on musical pearls like this one.
