Callum Crighton «Lazer Police: The Musical»

By Ephram St. Cloud10/07/2021 Video

LGBTQ+ icon and singer-songwriter Callum Crighton is the artist that needs to be at the top of your list to check out.

Armed with vibrance and energy, this self-producing performer specialises in electronic pop music destined to leave you weak at the knees. Returning with exceptional debut EP «Lazer Police: The Musical», Callum’s new EP was released on June 4th.

Speaking about the nostalgic yet refreshing upcoming EP and last track on the release «Universal Hand», Callum shares to me, «This track was inspired by the loneliness yet togetherness one can feel from the age of digital communication. It has an old school 80’s ballad sound with a more modern upbeat drum movement to connect the nostalgic ideals of the past with the electronic realities of the present. This track could loosely be seen as a reference to the isolation people felt during the 2020 pandemic, but extends much further, and can also be about the loneliness one may feel within themselves».

Standing up for individuality, creativity and the LGBTQ+ community, Callum adds on his beliefs, «I am a firm believer in all humans being treated with love and respect despite their background. I feel that there is still no strong representation for queer people in the musical landscape at the moment (especially not in the UK) and I really strive to be that. I also am vegan and a big believer in looking after our lovely world and all the animals and plants in it. I am an activist for LGBTQ+ rights and want to open up a wider dialogue surrounding our treatment, using music and being my theatrical self to become a walking political statement. I also have a unibrow and am a big believer in beauty coming in non-traditional forms, and that self-love is the most important of all! I also am a believer in manifesting dreams and believing in the powers of the universe».

Not only an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community but also the fashion and film industry, Callum Crighton continuously makes a statement with his eccentric image. From his fine cut outfits to his empowering monobrow, Callum refuses to follow the crowd. Turning to music, film and fashion from a young age offered Callum a theatrical escapism. Not afraid to walk into a room and for all eyes to be on him, Callum’s distinctive nature isn’t just visually, it’s portrayed exceptionally through music too.

Having grown up listening to 80’s legends such as Duran Duran, Kate Bush, Human League and Madonna to name a few, Callum has consistently been motivated to become a household name. After becoming a huge fan of Marina (and the Diamonds), Charli XCX, and Lady Gaga to name a few, Callum got his first job at 16 and used the money to buy music production equipment.

Gathering a DIY ethic ever since, this passionate and ethereal artist is destined to have his name in lights.
