Wils: The Journey of an Openly Gay Chinese Pop Singer

By Jungle Telegraph09/04/2024 Article 628 Views

Wils, the world's first openly gay Chinese pop singer, reflects on his ten-year journey in music and prepares to release his final music single, «Dancing Lights».

Wils: The Journey of an Openly Gay Chinese Pop Singer

Wils, the Singapore pop singing sensation, has made waves in the music industry as the world’s first openly gay Chinese pop singer. After a decade-long career, he is now preparing to release his final music single and visual, «Dancing Lights», marking the end of an era in his musical journey.

A Heartening Ten-Year Ride

As Wils reflects on his journey in music, he expresses gratitude for the lessons he has learned and the growth he has experienced. «My journey in music is complete», he confirms. «It has been a heartening ten-year ride that has taught me to live fearlessly as my authentic true self».

Throughout his career, Wils has faced challenges and triumphs, but one thing has remained constant: his commitment to being true to himself. He believes that authenticity is the key to happiness and success, and he is ready to embrace his next chapter in life.

Following the «Dancing Lights»

Wils describes the «Dancing Lights» as the divine, celestial lights that have guided him through the darkness of a dear friend’s passing and towards his true life’s purpose. The pain of losing someone so important in his life led him to delve deeper within himself and discover what was holding him back from true happiness.

Through introspection and self-reflection, Wils realised that it was time to dedicate his energy to helping others heal. This realisation inspired the creation of his final single, «Dancing Lights», which serves as an uplifting dance track that explores the highs and lows of life.

A Visual Journey of Grief and Acceptance

Accompanying the single is the «Dancing Lights» visual, directed by Stro and filmed at various locations in Los Angeles. The visual captures the essence of grief as a person emerges from the dark hole of depression and reaches the final stage of acceptance.

Wils expresses his pride in the video, stating, «It reflects on the beautiful times I shared with my friend and reminds me that even through the pain, I can embrace the love we once shared».

A Trailblazer in the Music Industry

Wils first gained fame with his 2014 album, «WTF», which was named the best pop album of the year at the Hollywood F.A.M.E Awards. The album also received a nomination for the best album at the Los Angeles Music Awards.

Throughout his career, Wils has been recognised for his talent and artistry. He has been nominated for various awards, including Pop Artist of the Year (Male) and International Artist of the Year. His single, «Less is More», won the Music Video of the Year award for its seamless integration of technology, music, fashion, and art.

From an early age, Wils knew that he was destined for the stage. He recalls performing in his school’s annual talent contest in junior high, where he discovered the power of music to evoke emotions in others. This realisation fueled his passion to change people’s lives through music.

A Grateful Heart

As Wils looks back on his journey, he expresses gratitude to all the people who believed in him and stood by his side from the beginning. Their support shielded him from the criticism of music critics and skeptical label executives who tried to mold him into a conventional pop star.

Wils acknowledges the kindness he received from strangers who became his fans, as it enabled him to believe in himself and embrace his authenticity. He encourages others to be kinder to themselves and to know that they are loved.

As he embarks on his next chapter in life, Wils remains open to the unknown. He hopes that his final single, «Dancing Lights», will inspire others to embrace their true selves and share the message of self-acceptance with others.

In conclusion, Wils’ journey as the world’s first openly gay Chinese pop singer has been a testament to the power of authenticity and self-belief. Through his music, he has touched the hearts of many and left a lasting impact on the industry. As he prepares to follow the dancing lights into the next phase of his life, Wils leaves behind a legacy of courage, resilience, and love.

Wils «Dancing Lights» will be available on all major streaming service from 12 April 2024.

Latest single on Apple Music, prior to the release of «Dancing Lights».
