Swedish artist Eric Saade will be participating in the opening show of the first Eurovision semi-final on Tuesday. However, he has also taken the opportunity to voice his criticism towards the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for their handling of the Gaza war, Norwegian newspaper VG reports.
In a post on his Instagram page, Saade expressed his disappointment and called the EBU’s actions shameful. He pointed out that while the EBU does not allow any Palestinian symbols inside the arena, symbols representing all other ethnicities in the world are welcome.
Saade, who represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011, emphasised that the slogan «United by Music» feels like a joke when it excludes the Palestinian people. He believes that true unity should embrace all ethnicities and cultures, without discrimination.
Despite his criticism, Saade will still be performing in the opening show alongside Cypriot artist Eleni Foureira and Spanish singer Chanel. His participation serves as a platform to convey his message of equality and inclusivity.
Through his actions and words, Saade hopes to raise awareness and initiate a dialogue about the importance of embracing diversity and promoting equality in all aspects of life, including the world of music.
