Embark on a Prairie-Rock Journey with «Keep for Cheap»’s Sophomore Album «Big Grass»

By Jungle Telegraph04/09/2024 Article

Discover «Keep for Cheap's «Big Grass», a prairie rock masterpiece released in end of Augsut. The band's second album showcases their creative independence, blending indie rock with country licks and heartfelt melodies.

Introduction to «Keep for Cheap»’s «Big Grass»

Step into the cinematic universe of «Keep for Cheap» with their highly anticipated sophomore album, «Big Grass». Released on 29th August 2024, this nine-track  «prairie-rock» record is a beautiful expression of the band’s newfound creative independence. Embracing their unique sound, the band has taken complete ownership of their craft, resulting in an album that is both sensitive and jagged.

Final Single: «Life is Like This»

«Life is Like This» is the third and final single from the album, and it strolls along at a steady pace, painting vignettes of life in early adulthood. The song culminates in a fervent, cyclical chorus that poignantly asks, «Are we doing our best at reaching to one another?» This track serves as the concluding chapter of the record, ending with heartfelt yearning for deep connections.

The Evolution of «Big Grass»

The sound of  «Big Grass» is the result of Keep for Cheap’s five-year commitment to building their musical world. The album displays their classic prairie rock taste, blending indie rock with country licks and heartfelt melodies that touch on themes such as evolving youth, queer love, and hopes for humanity. Each track adds a new layer to the emotional journey, skilfully intertwining high-energy moments with introspective ones.

A Journey Through the Tracks

The album opens with «FedEx», which yearns for a brighter future and navigates the intricacies of individuality on «Yours/Mine» It delves into personal growth challenges with «Lakehouse», explores the dread of an uncertain future in «Dark», and engages in existential questioning in «Cyberspace». As the narrative progresses, it shifts toward embracing the unknown, finding meaning together, and ultimately accepting life’s complexities.

Closing with «Talking Mushrooms», «Ski-Doo», and «Begging», the album finally releases the burden of past pain and moves forward. «Life is Like This» then brings the journey to a profound end, capturing the essence of human connection and acceptance.
