Savage Garden broke up in 2001. Hayes recalled the following year, his U.S label (Sony Music Entertainment) dropped all support for his debut solo album «Spin» at a crucial point in his career.
The album was released in 2002, and Hayes told the Herald Sun (pay wall) the criticism «came from the top» after American bosses saw the video for the album’s first single, «Insatiable».
«It came from the top in New York», he said, qnews.com.au reports.
The message was, «He looks gay when he moves, so we have to reshoot that video, and don’t let him dance. We don’t know what to do with this».
