Batten down the glitter, folks — the queer takeover of the charts is in full swing and it’s absolutely fabulous.
RetroPopBoy has done the unthinkable: toppled the usual suspects and planted his flag at the very top. His cover of Peach’s 1998 classic, reimagined with Project K’s glossy, dancefloor-ready production, has catapulted him to the summit — and it’s no surprise after last year’s smash Dreaming. The Spanish star’s tale of fleeing a conservative small town for London in the Nineties gives the track a deliciously cinematic edge. Cue the glitter cannons.
Song of the Week goes to Montjuïc’s «Your Shame», reissued to herald the «Things Must Change» album. The single’s message is blunt and beautiful: reject other people’s expectations. The video turns up the volume on that sentiment, featuring a proud, multicultural cast of queer folks from Glasgow to LA. Tearjerker? Absolutely. Empowering? You bet.
Newcomer of the Week is Nic Dantes and his electric «My Rollercoaster». A multi-hyphenate who acts, dances and sings, Nic has delivered a proper show-stopper that promises big things for the EP Know «My Name: Act II». Keep your eyes — and ears — on him.
At #20, Zedned’s «doyouremember» demands attention. The avant‑garde project from Jake and Molly Muscles keeps pushing at the edges of songcraft, and this one’s another delicious curveball. Experimental, bold and unmistakably queer.
The Top 50 is a riot of moods — euphoric pop bangers, soul-splitting ballads and club-ready cuts that’ll leave you breathless. This chart is built by you lot, for you lot: voter-powered, heart-on-sleeve, and unapologetically queer. Weekend soundtrack sorted.
Need more? Tune into the radio show for the full run‑down, interviews and exclusive plays — it’s the only place to catch the chart in full technicolour.
