Swedish Melodifestivalen according to me ! – Semi-final 3 2025

By Ephram St. Cloud21/02/2025 Article 91 Views

SVT guarantee a star-studded lineup of beloved artists and 17 debutants, all vying for the Songbird title and a chance to represent Sweden in Eurovision this May.

Semi-final 3 – Västerås, 15 February 2025

1. «Believe Me» – Greczula

Origin: Amanda Nordelius, John Russel, Kristofer Greczula

The song encourages dreaming big while appreciating the present. It reminds us to enjoy the journey rather than solely focusing on our goals. Although it wasn’t my personal favorite entry in the competition, it surprisingly for me, it managed to secure a place directly in the final of Melodifestivalen 2025, which is quite an achievement in itself.

2. «24K Gold» – Malou Prytz

Origin: Anderz Wrethov, Jimmy «Joker» Thörnfeldt, Julie «Kill J» Aagaard, Malou Prytz

It’s definitely a pop song, which tends to be the genre I usually gravitate toward, but this time I feel like it’s a more mature version of myself that I’m presenting. In my previous competitions, I was quite young and often leaned into a more youthful and perhaps childish vibe. Now, I feel that I’ve moved away from that youthful exuberance a bit and am able to showcase a slightly more grown-up and refined side of Malou. This particular song was one of my favourites throughout this semi-final, but unfortunately, it didn’t make it to the final round, which was quite disappointing.

3. «Rädda mig» – Björn Holmgren

Origin: Björn Holmgren, David Lindgren Zacharias, Jens Hult

It’s a Swedish pop song about my sister, who contracted TBE from a tick in 2020. She spent several months in intensive care, and for almost two years, we were uncertain about her survival. Today, she lives with brain damage, profoundly altering her life and that of our family. The song is a tribute to her and expresses my feelings about how quickly life can change. She hadn’t received the vaccine, which is part of why I feel compelled to share this message, even though I’m not campaigning. It doesn’t align with my favorite aspects of Melodifestivalen.

4. «Yihaa» – Dolly Style

Origin: Caroline Aronsson, David Lindgren Zacharias, Herman Gardarfve, Melanie Wehbe, Mikaela  Samuelsson, Patrik Jean

The song is upbeat and humorous, typical of our style, while conveying a meaningful message about staying true to yourself. It acknowledges that facing challenges is part of life, and it’s okay to move on afterward. This catchy tune is one of my favorites and has advanced to the second chance semi-final on 1 March 2025, the last opportunity to qualify for the Melodifestivalen 2025 final.

5. «Teardrops» – Angelino

Origin: Jimmy «Joker» Thörnfeldt, Joy Deb, Linnea Deb, Tusse Chiza

This song surpasses my last in Melodifestivalen with its elaborate production featuring powerful elements. The chorus is grand, complemented by a robust choir and gospel sections. Despite being far from my favorite, the artist did not connect with me.

6. «Life Again» – Annika Wickihalder

Origin: Annika Wickihalder, Herman Gardarfve, Patrik Jean

Annika Wickihalder explains that the inspiration for her song came from her own experience of overcoming a challenging period. The song reflects the journey back to feeling alive after a time of grief or mental illness, where one begins to notice colors and scents again, sparking a sense of hope. She is one of my favorite artists and reached the finals of Melodifestivalen 2025.

The Melodifestivalen 2025 forth semi-final is scheduled to be broadcast on Saturday, the 22 of February, via SVT, starting at 20.00. Be sure to tune in for this exciting event!
